This Novel is a call of the Time.

This Novel is a call of the time

💥💥💥💥

with 24 years of teaching experience, working now as professor, School of Foreign Studies, Wenzhou University. As an empanelled resource person of Securities and Exchange Board of India (SEBI) conducted more than 280 Financial Education workshops in different parts of India. Travelled to Sri Lanka, Hong Kong, Japan, Thailand, and U.S.A. where I met thousands of women sharing their living conditions with me personally more than a resource person. This humble introduction , I need to convey my edification to justify my views on this novel .I can’t claim myself as a voracious reader; but I never failed to read great works when I was introduced to them.

I had the privilege of reading Puthiyamaadhavi’s brilliantly written novel and translated in English by Meera Ravishankar as Horseleap. As directed by Mr.Vaiyavan, I was a silent observer of the Zoom meet also. My qualifications, teaching experiences led me to have direct contact with teen girls, matured women. High profile ones, educated, illiterates, employed unemployed, housewives and lovers with their problems.

There are so many Samas Senthamarais Kanmanis and Sangeethas almost all around the World; I am dared to point out. They have different names, background, racial and national and cultural identities. In my Thailand visit I was supplied with a lot of information and videos of a previous woman politician also like Senthamarai

Puthiyamaadhavi’s uncanny portrayal of women still seems a reality. Man in general is frantically involved in the race of winning .He needs a leap. The International scenario depicts billions are in the race. They are all pitiless. They want to win at any cost. They need a person , position or immediate partner to leap up to reach a summit. And as the great writer C.S.Lakshmi states ‘Who do we leap over? What do we leap over? With what aim do we leap over? Why do we leap over?  Must we leap over at all? Life becomes a horse ride where every time one takes a great leap a person’s back is pressed down, the shoulders used for a ride, the other person pushed down hard enough not to rise up and victory is celebrated. The colours of the green horses may have changed but the horses remain: Mother, daughter, wife, beloved, grandmother, girlfriend….”

Puthiyamaadhavi never missed depicting them. She just shows the ups and falls of Womanhood; how its rises end with heartbreaking sunsets. There was no preaching and recommendations for any ‘isms’

Wow...This is what a reader expects from a sincere writer!

A Novel to my perception should leave a deep imprint in the minds of a generation. No technique, no narrative gymnastics is needed. Like a Natasha of War and Peace or a Katyusha of Resurrection. I just referred to only two of the greatest writers, Leo Tolstoy. Here we have four.

In this kaleidoscope of Puthiamaadhavi’s Samadhanam Mary’s hostel life still many more figures jumble. I request your patient attention to perceive them. Then you will certainly understand what a woman today is! This Novel is a call of the time. I appreciate Meera Ravishankar’s efforts for a sincere English reflex over a handy mirror.
