நனைந்த சொற்கள்

Thanks to Sri N Srivasta .. frm his facebook page dated 24 July 2019
The word 'gila' of Faarsi origin is commonly used in Hindi and Urdu to mean wetness. The word also can be interpreted as a complaint. Rain causes havoc whether in shortage or excess. Not just people and property but even words get wet in the rain says this poem in Tamil by Poet #Puthiyamaadhavi_Sankaran which is reproduced here with prior permission from the poet together with an English translation by moi:
The power
of the heavy rain
scattering off
glass window panes
bends and distorts
the spokes of the umbrella.
When the Shivling
breaks into two
unable to bear
the burden of lightning
in rainy season
chased by the curses
of memories,
rails reverberate.
I peep out slowly.
Darkness has gathered.
I dry the words
dampened by rain
in body heat
for tomorrow
to dawn with
dried words.
